Alden competed in parliamentary debate for four years at Bishop O’Dowd High School and coached dozens of novices as a team captain in her junior and senior years. In addition to her high school coaching experience, Alden also regularly taught debate workshops for middle schoolers, and spent the past two summers working at various summer camps. She ended the 2017-2018 season ranked 6th nationally as an individual parliamentary debater, and finished the 2018-2019 season ranked 9th after compiling a broad range of accomplishments—winning the Totally Free Tournament, the Peninsula Invitational, and the Fullerton Invitational, reaching finals at Notre Dame, Long Beach, and Cal Parli, and making semifinals at the Jon Schamber Invitational, National Parliamentary Debate Invitational, and Stanford. Alden spent the past summer as an instructor at the POI Debate Institute and will be attending Stanford University to study environmental engineering. As a Club Parli coach, Alden is looking forward to creating a fun, welcoming, and educational experience for this year’s debaters—most likely with a record numbers of pep talks.
